We've DJ'd birthdays of every kind across New Zealand, so we know how to read a room, pick the right song for the moment, and keep the energy where you want it from the first guest to the last.

18th, 21st, 30th, 40th, 50th, or a milestone with the whole family there, every birthday has its own crowd and its own taste. Tell us who's coming and the kind of night you're after, and we'll build the music around it. Today's top 40, throwbacks, a bit of everything in between, plus your must-plays and any songs you'd rather we skipped. Requests on the night are always welcome.

How much does a birthday DJ cost in NZ?

Birthday DJ packages in NZ typically range from around $800 for a backyard 4-hour set through to $3,000+ for a premium milestone with full lighting, cold sparks and FX. Where you land depends on a few things:

  • Hours of cover. A 4-hour 21st is different to a 7-hour 50th with sit-down dinner and speeches.
  • Guest count and venue size. Bigger rooms need more speakers to spread sound evenly.
  • Production level. Standard rig, premium lighting, full FX with cold sparks and CO2.
  • Travel. We're Hamilton-based, so anything within the Hamilton radius is included. Further afield we quote transparent travel up front.
  • Date. Saturdays from late November through to March book first, especially 21sts.

Our packages start from $949 + GST and scale to full milestone celebrations.

Bloody awesome DJ company! We had the pleasure of having Chris as our DJ and he's absolutely amazing! We had made our song/playlist requests through a webpage that was easy to use and even though the rain meant some last minute change in locations, Chris wasn't phased and seamlessly carried on. The guests made so many comments about the DJ about how he read the room so well, kept vibes high and chose great songs (hubby and I agree!). We also got the photo booth which was a TOTAL hit! Being able to have print outs to put on the fridge and then being sent a link where we could download the digital copies was so handy! Would absolutely recommend the team at MyEventDJ! Thanks for helping to make our day magical, Chris!

Incredible! We used Chris at our wedding a month ago - we had him for the whole shebang. From ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner and through to the dance floor Chris was incredible. He was inconspicuous, but the music and timing was perfect. He fitted seamlessly into our day. The app and communication beforehand made things super easy and uncomplicated. AND THEN he threw down absolute banger after banger on the dance floor later on. We cannot thank you enough for helping to make our wedding such an absolute hit.

We used my Event DJ, for our wedding in January and they were absolutely amazing. Their systems for song selection was simply to use, their communication was also out standing. We also used the package which included the photo both and this went down even better than we hoped, the photos and set up was amazing and all our guest thought it was one of the best photo booths they have used. Honestly we could not recommend these guys enough!. Thanks heaps for making our event! Marie & John

We couldn’t have asked for a better DJ for our wedding! Chris was on time, professional, and everything ran perfectly from start to finish. He was incredibly patient throughout the whole process and a huge help during the planning stages. He also set up the photobooth, which our guests absolutely loved it was such a hit all night! The whole service was amazing value for money. We’re so grateful for everything he did to make our day so special. Highly recommend!

How much does a birthday DJ cost in NZ?

Birthday DJ packages in NZ typically range from around $800 for a backyard 4-hour set through to $3,000+ for a premium milestone with full lighting and FX. Our packages start from $949 + GST.

How far in advance should I book a birthday DJ?

Usually around 4 weeks is plenty. If it's closer than that, message us anyway and we'll check our availability, we can often still make it work.

Do you do surprise birthday parties?

Yes, and we love them. We work closely with whoever's organising the surprise to time the music to the reveal moment perfectly. Discretion guaranteed.

Do you DJ kids birthday parties?

Yes, kids birthday parties are a different vibe. Clean radio edits, age-appropriate playlist, party games on the mic if you want them. Let us know the ages and we'll plan accordingly.

Will you take guest requests on the night?

Yes, within the boundaries you've set. If a guest requests something on your do-not-play list, we'll politely decline. Otherwise we'll keep the night flowing.

Do you provide wireless mics for speeches?

Yes, wireless mics included for speeches, toasts and the obligatory family roast.

Can you DJ a backyard birthday party?

Yes. We have battery-powered sound options for backyard or outdoor venues, plus festoon lighting for atmosphere. Tell us the layout and we’ll bring the right rig.

Do you have public liability insurance?

Yes. We hold full public liability insurance.

Can you bring a photo booth or 360 booth too?

Yes, combine a DJ booking with our photo booth, 360 video booth or audio guestbook. Works out more cost-effective than booking them separately.

Do you screen explicit tracks if family are present?

Yes, we can play clean radio edits across the board if you're sharing the night with kids, grandparents, or anyone you'd rather not hear specific lyrics in front of. Just flag it in the planning brief.

What gear do you use?

Professional speakers, wireless mics and dance floor lighting, sized to your venue and guest count. We can send a full equipment list with your proposal.

Do you travel for birthdays?

Yes. Hamilton-based and regularly DJing birthdays across the upper North Island. Travel within a radius around Hamilton is included; further afield we quote transparent travel up front.

What's your cancellation policy?

Securing your date requires a non-refundable 20% retainer. Cancellations or postponements need at least 90 days' written notice; less than that and the full contracted fee is payable. If external factors beyond our control prevent the event (government restrictions or public health directives), we'll offer a one-time reallocation of the retainer to a new date within 12 months, subject to availability. Full terms in your proposal.
