How much does an engagement party DJ cost in NZ?

Engagement DJ packages in NZ typically run from around $800 for a 4 to 5 hour set up to $2,500+ for larger celebrations with full lighting and add-ons. Planning the big day too? Lock in your wedding DJ at the same time and save 10% on the wedding. Where you land depends on a few things:

  • Hours of cover. A 4-hour sit-down dinner is different to a 6-hour vineyard celebration.
  • Guest count and venue size. Bigger rooms need more speakers to spread sound evenly.
  • Add-ons. Audio guestbook, photo booth, uplighting, cold sparks all factor in.
  • Travel. We're Hamilton-based, so anything within the Hamilton radius is included. Further afield we quote transparent travel up front.

Bloody awesome DJ company! We had the pleasure of having Chris as our DJ and he's absolutely amazing! We had made our song/playlist requests through a webpage that was easy to use and even though the rain meant some last minute change in locations, Chris wasn't phased and seamlessly carried on. The guests made so many comments about the DJ about how he read the room so well, kept vibes high and chose great songs (hubby and I agree!). We also got the photo booth which was a TOTAL hit! Being able to have print outs to put on the fridge and then being sent a link where we could download the digital copies was so handy! Would absolutely recommend the team at MyEventDJ! Thanks for helping to make our day magical, Chris!

Incredible! We used Chris at our wedding a month ago - we had him for the whole shebang. From ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner and through to the dance floor Chris was incredible. He was inconspicuous, but the music and timing was perfect. He fitted seamlessly into our day. The app and communication beforehand made things super easy and uncomplicated. AND THEN he threw down absolute banger after banger on the dance floor later on. We cannot thank you enough for helping to make our wedding such an absolute hit.

We used my Event DJ, for our wedding in January and they were absolutely amazing. Their systems for song selection was simply to use, their communication was also out standing. We also used the package which included the photo both and this went down even better than we hoped, the photos and set up was amazing and all our guest thought it was one of the best photo booths they have used. Honestly we could not recommend these guys enough!. Thanks heaps for making our event! Marie & John

We couldn’t have asked for a better DJ for our wedding! Chris was on time, professional, and everything ran perfectly from start to finish. He was incredibly patient throughout the whole process and a huge help during the planning stages. He also set up the photobooth, which our guests absolutely loved it was such a hit all night! The whole service was amazing value for money. We’re so grateful for everything he did to make our day so special. Highly recommend!

Chris you are bloody epic! We had the best night with you, you listen to the crowd and know your music so well. Have had so many great parties with you but this one tops the rest! Will now be using you for every party ever lol thanks man!

How much does an engagement party DJ cost in NZ?

How does the engagement + wedding combo discount work?

Lock in both your engagement party DJ and your wedding DJ at the same time and you save 10% off the wedding portion. Same team, same music planner, one less supplier conversation for you.

Do we have to book the wedding at the same time?

No, you can book the engagement party DJ on its own. The combo discount only kicks in if you lock in both at the same time, but the engagement DJ booking stands alone.

How far in advance should we book an engagement DJ?

Most couples book their engagement party DJ 2 to 6 months in advance. If you’re doing a combo with the wedding, lock both in at the same time so you’re not chasing dates twice.

Can you DJ a backyard engagement party?

Yes. We have battery-powered sound for backyard or off-grid venues, plus festoon lighting and the same music planner you’d get at a wedding.

Do you cover speeches and toasts?

Yes, wireless mic included for speeches and toasts. We can also MC the moment if you want someone running the timing.

Can we do our first dance at the engagement instead of the wedding?

Absolutely. Send us the song and we’ll time it to the moment you want. Same craft as the wedding-day first dance.

Do you DJ multicultural engagement parties?

Yes. We've DJ'd Pasifika, Samoan, Indian, Māori and mixed-culture engagement parties across NZ. Share the playlists and customs ahead of time and we'll have it dialled.

Do you have public liability insurance?

Yes. We hold full public liability insurance.

Can you bring an audio guestbook for our engagement?

Yes, and honestly, this is one of the most special engagement add-ons we offer. Guests leave voice messages for you both throughout the night. You get the audio files delivered after, to play back on every anniversary.

What happens if we postpone?

Securing your date requires a non-refundable 20% retainer. Cancellations or postponements need at least 90 days' written notice; less than that and the full contracted fee is payable. If external factors beyond our control prevent the event (government restrictions or public health directives), we'll offer a one-time reallocation of the retainer to a new date within 12 months, subject to availability. Full terms in your proposal.

How do we book?
