We don't bring 'good enough' sound to school balls. We bring the same systems that run NZ events like Rhythm & Vines. The dancefloor feels the bass without overpowering the rest of the room, so you can still hear yourself at the bar.

School ball DJ cost NZ

How much does a school ball DJ cost in NZ?

Simple. From $12 + GST per student. The full production scales with your numbers, so a bigger ball gets a bigger sound system, more lighting and bigger effects, all built in. Here's how it works:

  • Full production, every time. Every ball gets the complete DJ, sound and lighting setup. As your student count grows, so does the rig.
  • Want to go bigger? If you want a larger sound system or more lights than your numbers call for, say the word and we can add it on. Some committees like to make the room feel huge.
  • $999 + GST minimum. Covers balls up to around 80 students so the smallest ball still gets a full, proper setup.
  • Final count locks at ticket close. We quote on your committee estimate, then confirm the final number when ticket sales close, usually about a week and a half out.
  • Returning schools keep their rate. Once you book with us, your per-student rate is locked for next year. No surprise jumps when you roll over.

So a 150-student ball comes in around $1,800 + GST, a 300-student ball around $3,600 + GST, all-in. Custom stage designs and LED walls are quoted separately on top.

We couldn’t have asked for a better DJ for our wedding! Chris was on time, professional, and everything ran perfectly from start to finish. He was incredibly patient throughout the whole process and a huge help during the planning stages. He also set up the photobooth, which our guests absolutely loved it was such a hit all night! How much does a school ball DJ cost in NZ?

We keep it simple: from $12 + GST per student, with a $999 + GST minimum (covers balls up to around 80 students). That's the full production, with the sound system, lighting and effects scaling up as your numbers grow. Custom stage designs and LED walls are quoted separately on top. So a 150-student ball comes in around $1,800 + GST and a 300-student ball around $3,600 + GST, all-in.

Do you have public liability insurance?

Yes. We hold full public liability insurance.

Do you screen songs for explicit content?

Yes. We always aim to play clean edits, and your committee picks the songs. We'll check with the school first if there's the occasional track with minor profanity, and we'll also flag any modern songs that have a clean version but still carry explicit meaning. No surprises in front of the principal.

How early do you arrive on the night?

We arrive at least 3 hours before doors, often earlier for bigger productions. Setup is finished, sound is tested, lighting is dialled in, and the venue looks the part before the first ticket-holder walks in.

Can we customise the lighting to match our ball theme?

Yes. All our lighting is colour-customisable. Send us your ball theme colours and we'll match the venue washes and uplighting to your design, with LED walls available as part of a custom stage design.

What special effects do you offer?

Cold spark fountains, CO2 jets, confetti cannons, dry ice low fog, smoke-filled bubbles, streamers, and standard fog/haze. We tell you which ones work in your venue based on smoke alarm placement and venue regulations, so no surprise issues on the night.

How does the music planning work?

Your committee gets logged in to our online music planner where you can build the playlist on your phones over the weeks leading up to the ball. Must-play list, do-not-play list, requests for specific moments (opening, key dances, last song). Syncs straight into our DJ software so nothing gets missed.

Do you take requests on the night?

Yes, within the boundaries your committee has set. If a student requests something on the do-not-play list, we'll politely decline. If it fits the vibe, we'll get it queued.

Do you do after balls too?

Yes. We regularly DJ official balls and after balls for the same school. Combo rates available.

Can you DJ a school disco or school social as well?

Yes. We DJ primary school discos, intermediate socials, and high school socials in addition to year 12/13 balls. Different vibe, different music, same professionalism.

How far in advance should we book?

A lot of schools lock in their DJ in the first few weeks of the year, so it pays to get in quick. May and June balls book up first, and if you’re aiming for a Friday or Saturday in those months, the earlier the better.

What's your cancellation or postponement policy?

Securing your date requires a non-refundable 20% retainer. Cancellations or postponements need at least 90 days' written notice; less than that and the full contracted fee is payable. If external factors beyond our control prevent the event (government restrictions or public health directives), we'll offer a one-time reallocation of the retainer to a new date within 12 months, subject to availability. Full terms in your proposal.

Do you travel for school balls?

Yes. Hamilton-based, and we regularly DJ school balls across the upper North Island, including plenty in Auckland. Travel within a radius around Hamilton is included; further afield, get in touch and we'll likely waive it for you.

Can you provide references from other schools?

Yes. Happy to put you in touch with the teacher-in-charge at any school we’ve worked with recently.

How do we book?

Send us your ball date and venue through the enquiry form, or give us a call. We'll confirm availability, send you a proposal usually within 24 hours along with our school ball pack, and lock in your date with a 20% deposit.
